“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,’ and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.” James 2:14-16closeJames 2:14-16 Faith Without Works Is Dead 14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? We Are … Whole Earth People

IMG_0080

We believe that each person shares responsibility for the earth. We believe God calls us to see our concerns as inseparable from a commitment to the natural world.

As part of our commitment to care of the earth and its inhabitants as a community of faith, we have committed ourselves to explore new areas of environmental responsibility.

We Are … Justice Seeking People

rally-1-22-2011

We seek to minister to those in need in our own church and in our community, nation and world. We believe that God calls us to be global citizens and that the expression of love is justice. Each year our church holds events to help us understand the issues that we believe are central to our lives, our faith and our world. Our Faith/Our Vote Forums and a Peace Prayer Vigil were two events where our church welcomed the community to join us for an exchange of ideas on important issues. Our road trip to Cheyenne to protest the defense of the Marriage bill was but one example of our sincere commitment to seeking justice for all God’s children.

We Provide Sanctuary for LGBT Youth

As an open and affirming church, we provide a vital role as a welcoming haven for LGBT youth in our community. UCC-Casper provides a home for PFLAG meetings (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), the Gay/ Straight Alliance, and simply welcomes everyone with open arms. We are currently facing financial difficulties and in order to help our doors stay open we’ve set up a site about our role as a safe haven for LGBT youth. Please help us with your support and share the site Safe Haven in the Heartland (www.safehavenintheheartland.com ) with friends and family to help spread an awareness of this life-affirming, and potentially life-saving, role we play here in Casper.

We Are … Open and Affirming People

We know that God’s love embraces all persons equally regardless of sexual orientation, gender, age, ability, marital, ethnic, or socioeconomic background. We are welcomed and affirmed in our community of faith.

As part of our commitment, we celebrate the anniversary of placing our faith in God’s love for all people. our 2005 celebration brought “The Shower of Stoles Project” to Casper. The stoles tell the stories of people of faith who are GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered). The stories and stoles tell of people who are serving God in the church – many anonymously.

With our commitment to having our church be a place where everyone feels welcomed and is affirmed, we host monthly Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) meetings.

PFLAG promotes the well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. PFLAG provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity. PFLAG meets the fourth Sunday of the month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. For more information about PFLAG, call Ruth Ann Leonard at 265-5449.

God has given us so much that we seek to minister to those in need in our church as well as in our community.

Our faith may be 2000 years old, but our thinking is not.

Come explore what the Still Speaking God has to say to us.
